The exam is held in two stages, with the first stage consisting of a written test and the second stage consisting of a studio test and personal interview.

The written test evaluates the candidate's aptitude for design and creativity. It includes sections on drawing skills, creativity, design aptitude, and general knowledge. The test is designed to assess the candidate's ability to think creatively, observe and interpret visual information, and communicate their ideas visually.

The studio test assesses the candidate's ability to work on design projects and think creatively. The studio test is conducted over two to three days and includes various activities such as model making, prototyping, and visualization. The test is designed to evaluate the candidate's ability to work in a team, their problem-solving skills, and their ability to create designs that are functional, innovative, and aesthetically pleasing.

The personal interview is the final stage of the selection process, and it helps the institute understand the candidate's motivations and interests in pursuing a career in design. The interview also allows the institute to assess the candidate's communication skills, ability to think critically and creatively, and their fit with the institute's culture.

In summary, NID is a premier design institute in India that offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various specializations, and the NID exam is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the institute to select candidates for its programmes.
