Is Uceed required for NID?

No, UCEED and NID are completely separate and NID don’t accept UCEED score and candidates have to sit for NID entrance to get admission at NID.

What is UCEED?

UCEED stands for Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design. It is being conducted by IIT Bombay to take admission for the various B. Des courses offered by the Industrial Design Centre (IDC) of IIT Bombay and Departments of Design at IIT Guwahati, IIITDM Jabalpur, and IIT Hyderabad. IIT Delhi is also being adding to this list.

Apart from the participating institutes, many other Design colleges also accept UCEED scores to take admission.

What is NID?

NID stands for National Institute of design, is nationally as well as internationally one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates.

National Institute for design is the first design Institute in India established by Indian government, Ford Foundation and the Sarabhai family in the year 1961 at Ahmadabad. It was an autonomous all-India body. Now, there are total 6 NID campuses located in within India, which are: Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Gandhi Nagar, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Assam. NID has been ranked as India’s No. 1 Design Institute.

So, how will you take admission at NID?

To take admission at National institute of Design, you have to go through NID entrance examination which is NID DAT. It’s a separate national level examination only to get admission at NID.

NID-DAT:

NID organise a two stage national level Entrance examination every year for admission of students for B. Des and M. Des courses provided by NID. The entrance examination of NID is being called NID-DAT. DAT stands for design aptitude test. This examination evaluates the candidate's visualisation skills, creative & observation skills, knowledge, comprehension, analytical ability, et cetera.

Those who want to pursue Under-graduation and post graduation studies in design must apply for the NID DAT. Cracking NID DAT will open up the opportunity to study at NID and do B. Des and M. Des courses. Experts have shared that this NID's design aptitude test is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in India.
