THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF DESIGN (NID)

The National Institutes of Design (NIDs) are a group of independent public design universities in India, with the main campus located in Ahmedabad and extension campuses in Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. The primary institute was established in 1961. The locations of the additional NIDs are in Kurukshetra, Vijayawada, Jorhat, and Bhopal. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, oversees the NIDs autonomously. NID was founded as a result of numerous forces, both local and global. These forces came together in the late 1950s, and this was a pivotal period for Indian culture and education.

Admission to B.Des and M.Des programs is made available to competent applicants who pass this entrance exam. The NID DAT, which consists of the DAT Preliminary and DAT Mains tests, will be used to select candidates. Candidates who successfully complete both phases are eligible for admission to the numerous NID campuses situated in Ahmedabad, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, and other locations.

HOSTEL AND CANTEEN FACILITY IN NID:

NID provides a beautiful canteen facility to enjoy food with your besties.

A Students' Mess Committee is responsible for managing the Student Mess, which the Institute contractually manages. All hostel occupants must adhere strictly to the mess amenities. The Institute will advance all mess costs for each semester and collect them alongside the semester fees at the start of the semester.

NID PROGRAMMES:

At the Bachelors's and Master's levels, NID offers professional education programs with five faculty streams and 20 unique design domains. The NID Ahmedabad Campus recently introduced a five-year Ph.D. program. With more than 55 foreign institutions, NID has established exchange programs and ongoing pedagogical relationships. Additionally, NID has been actively promoting design.

The overall program structure at NID combines theory, practical application, design projects, and fieldwork, all of which are supported by state-of-the-art design studios, skill & innovation labs, and the Knowledge Management Center. In order to give students professional experience, sponsored design projects are introduced into the classroom. Studies in interdisciplinary design in science and the liberal arts broaden students' horizons and raise awareness of current issues in general.
