NID and NIFT are two different colleges with different focuses.
NID stands for National institute of design, and as the name suggests it is mostly inclined towards DESIGN. It is a multidisciplinary college that offers several courses in the field of design (Animation design, Glass design, UI/UX design, Textile design, furniture design, product design, Film and video communication, Graphic design, etc)
NIFT stands for National institute of fashion technology. If a student is fashion-focused, then nift is the place for them since NIFT is inclined towards fields related to fashion studies particularly.
To add to this, both of these are national examinations but NID's entrance exam is comparatively tougher than NIFT's and so is the selection process.
There is no better college. Both these institutions stand as the top 2 government institutions for fashion and design studies in India. The distinctions come into play when we talk about the disciplines they offer. If you are specifically interested in fashion, NIFT is the place for you. But, If you are interested in the field of Design, which includes many disciplines, NID is the place for you.
