THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF DESIGN (NID)

The National Institutes of Design (NIDs) are a group of independent public design universities in India, with the main campus located in Ahmedabad and extension campuses in Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. The primary institute was established in 1961. The locations of the additional NIDs are in Kurukshetra, Vijayawada, Jorhat, and Bhopal. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, oversees the NIDs autonomously. NID was founded as a result of numerous forces, both local and global. These forces came together in the late 1950s, and this was a pivotal period for Indian culture and education.

The DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, oversees the National Institute of Design (NID), a statutory institution. The Act of Parliament has designated it as an "Institution of National Importance." The NID is one of the best teaching and research organizations for integrated (experiential) industrial, communication, textile, and IT design. Additionally, it is acknowledged as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Government of India's Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

HOSTEL FACILITY AT NID:

Beyond its capacity, NID is not required to offer dormitory facilities. Students from remote areas are given preference for dormitory accommodations. Students may opt to live outside in suitable PG or hired housing alone or in groups, if appropriate. Students who live in the NID hostel are required to abide by its general policies. Every hostel has a warden who oversees daily operations. The individual student is in charge of maintaining all of his or her personal property, including any work that is academically connected. The Institute disclaims all liability for lost, stolen, or broken personal property occurring on campus.

STUDY AT NID:

With a one-year design foundation studies program that precedes eight undergraduate programs, nineteen postgraduate programs, and a recently formed Ph.D. program. The professional educational programs at NID are designed to prepare students not only for industrial practice but also for entrepreneurship. These courses have emerged and continue to evolve in response to the socio-cultural and economic milieu of the times, and are available from three campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Bengaluru.

The connection between teaching, research, and practice, which finds its way into the classroom, enriches its multidisciplinary framework even more. With a long history of pioneering programs, the NID has a legacy of producing not simply job seekers, but also job creators.
