About NID

NID stands for National Institute of design, is nationally as well as internationally one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels.

National Institute for design is the first design Institute in India established by Indian government, Ford Foundation and the Sarabhai family  in the year 1961 at Ahmedabad. It was an autonomous all-India body. NID has been ranked as India’s No. 1 Design Institute.

There are total 7 NID campuses located in within India, which are: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Gandhinagar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam. Not every campuses offer same specialisation or same disciplines, but offer B. Des, M. Des and Ph. D courses.

B. DES COURSES OFFERED BY NID CAMPUSES

The 4 years long bachelor of Design program at NID Ahmedabad campus

  1. Communication design specialisation course include 4 disciplines, such as- B. Des in Film and video communication, B. Des in graphic design, B. Des in Animation film design, B. Des in Exhibition design. 
  2. Foundation program course
  3. Industrial design specialisation course include 3 disciplines such as- B. Des in Ceramic and glass design, B. des in Furniture and interior design, B. Des in product design. 
  4. Textile, Apparel, lifestyle and accessory design specialisation offers B. Des in Textile design. 

 

M. DES COURSES OFFERED BY NID CAMPUSES

The  years Master of Design programme at NID is offered by it’s campuses in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar in the areas, such as:

  1. Communication design specialisation course include 4 disciplines, such as- M. Des in Film and video communication, M. Des in graphic design, M. Des in Animation film design, M. Des in Photography design. 
  2. Industrial design specialisation course include 6 disciplines such as- M. Des in Ceramic glass design, M. des in Furniture and interior design, M. Des in product design, M. Des in Toy and game design, M. Des in Transportation and automobile design, M. Des in Universal design. 
  3. Interdisciplinary design specialisation course Include 2 disciplines such as- M. Des in Retail experience M. Des in strategic design management. 
  4. IT integrated specialisation course include 4 disciplines such as- M. Des in digital game design, M. Des in interaction design, M. des in information design, M. Des in new media design. 
  5. Textile, Apparel, lifestyle and accessory design specialisation offers 3 disciplines such as- M. Des in Apparel design, M. Des in Lifestyle Design, M. Des in Textile design. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA-

  • Candidates must qualify graduation degree from any recognized board on any subject or stream. 
  • Candidates have to qualify NID DAT with a valid score.
