NID(National Institute of Design) is an autonomous institution considered one of the most prestigious ones when it comes to studying design. NID holds great importance in its domain across the world. NID conducts its entrance exam DAT(Design Aptitude Test) popularly known as ‘NEED’ once every year offering courses like B. Des. & M. Des. This exam also offers a doctoral program which has been launched very recently.
The NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is a national-level entrance exam that selects students for admission to the prominent National Institute of Design (NID) campuses' undergraduate and graduate design programs. To be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Master of Design (MDes) programs offered at the NID campuses, candidates must pass two NID admission tests.
NID's campuses initially provided Bachelor of Design (BDes), Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD), and Master of Design (MDes) programs. However, starting in 2020, the few NID campuses that provided GDPD programs (NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Madhya Pradesh, NID Haryana, and NID Assam) began awarding BDes degree programs to candidates based on their performance in the NID Entrance Exam.
Candidates must meet the NID DAT eligibility standards, which include an age limit, educational qualifications, and a qualifying exam that is accepted by NID. Only those individuals who meet the requirements should apply for the admission exam. The NID eligibility criteria are outlined in the table below.
B.Des - Candidates must have completed Class 12 from a recognized board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE, or its equivalent in any stream (Science, Humanities, or Commerce). Applicants enrolled in Class 12 are also welcome to apply.
M.Des - Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university or college. All applicants must be under the age of 30.
