NID stands for National Institute of design, is nationally as well as internationally one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates. It was an autonomous all-India body. Now, there are total 6 NID campuses located in within India, which are: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Gandhinagar, Andhra pradesh, Haryana, Assam. NID has been ranked as India’s No. 1 Design Institute.

NID organise a two stage national level Entrance examination every year for admission of students for B. Des and M. Des courses provided by NID. The entrance examination of NID is being called NID-DAT. DAT stands for design aptitude test. This examination evaluates the candidate's visualisation skills, creative & observation skills, knowledge, comprehension, analytical ability, et cetera. Experts have shared that this NID's design aptitude test is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in India.

To get admission at NID, candidates must go through their entrance examination which is NID DAT. Those who wants to pursue designing courses from NID must check the eligibility criteria for NID DAT. Candidates are bound to have age limit, academic qualifications to sit on this exam. 

NID DAT 2023 age limitations:

For UG students-

  • General and general EWS candidates must be up to 20 years of age on or before June 30, 2003
  • OBC-Non Creamy Layer/ ST/ SC candidates get a relaxation of 3 years.
  • PwD reserved category candidates get an exemption of 5 years

For PG students-

  • Indian nationals in general category as well as Internationals – candidates must born on or after July 1, 1993, to be eligible for application. 
  • Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC & ST) – candidates must born on or after July 1, 1990, to get eligible for NID. 
  • Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category - candidates must born on or after July 1, 1988, to get eligible for NID. 

Tentative date for 2023 NID DAT application form most probably first week of October 2022. So go get enrol yourself if you think you are eligible.
