WHAT IS NID? 

NID stands for National Institute of design, is nationally as well as internationally one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels.
National Institute for design is the first design Institute in India established by Indian government, Ford Foundation and the Sarabhai family  in the year 1961 at Ahmedabad. It was an autonomous all-India body. NID has been ranked as India’s No. 1 Design Institute. National Institute of Design has it’s total 7 campus all over India, such as, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Gandhinagar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam.

WHAT IS NID MAINS? 

NID conduct an entrance examination called NID DAT which is a design aptitude test every year to take admission in B. Des and M. Des courses at NID. Candidates, willing to pursue design courses, must apply for NID DAT to get admission at NID. NID DAT is divided in to two different parts: NID prelims and NID Mains.
NID Prelims which is the written part, whereasNI NID mains is the part where candidates have to go for studio test and personal interview.

To do design course you need to clear NID prelims and then Mains both.

  • 4 years of B. Des course on Products Design,  graphic design, film and video communication, textile design, furniture design, animation film design, exhibition design, ceramic and glass design-  ₹ 368,400 per year. (Annual fees- arround ₹12,91,600 to ₹12,86,600) 
  • 2 years of M. Des course on furniture and interior design, graphic design, product design, textile design, animation film design, film and video communication, ceramic and glass design- ₹ 428,400 per year. (annual fees- ₹ 9,39,800) 

NID MAINS PATTERN

Experts have shared that this NID's design aptitude test is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in India. NID prelims is the first stage of the exam and is the written test. After qualifying prelims candidates can sit for mains. NID DAT mains consist two parts such as: NID Studio test and personal Interview. 
mains is a offline exam or you can say practical exam. Its studio test part is more important! Through studio test, examiners examines the creative level of the candidates.

  • STUDIO TEST- 

The major part of NID mains is NID Studio test. It is compulsory for candidates to perform well in NID Studio Test in order to secure a seat in the design institute. Studio test for B. Des is different from studio test for M. Des. Studio test is completely based on candidate's creativity skills. 

EXAM PATTERN FOR STUDIO TEST

  • The studio test was conducted in two sessions. 
  • A doodling exercise where candidates need to complete each given frame with doodles. 
  • After a short break candidates were given two tasks which they need to perform using the materials provided. Such as making something with material which examiners have provided.
  • PERSONAL INTERVIEW

The next part of NID mains after studio test is personal interview round. In this round NID experts will rake interview with both tricky and normal questions. Candidates gave to take their work portfolio with them in this round.
