Hi,

The National Institute of Design which is popularly known as NID is an autonomous institution backed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry(GOI). NID is considered one of the most prestigious institutions for the aspirants of industrial, textile and IT integrated design & research. The institute is highly regarded and as a result, it has been recognized as the “Institution of National Importance” by the act of parliament in 2014. Through the NID entrance exam, aspirants go for courses like Bachelors in Design(B.Des.) and Masters in Design(M.Des.). So, the eligibility criteria for both courses differ significantly. Hence, We would go through the criteria for each one by one. Eligibility Criteria for B.Des. Courses All candidates applying for B.Des. must meet the eligibility criteria of both age and educational qualification as under.

Age Limit: For Indian nationals belonging to the General or General EWS category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 2002 are eligible to apply for admission. For Indian nationals belonging to OBC/SC/ST category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission. For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 1997 are eligible to apply for admission. For Foreign Nationals in Overseas Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 2002 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification: Applicants for the academic year 2022-23 are open to candidates who have passed or will appear for 10+2 qualifying exams in the academic year 2021-22 in any stream from any recognized board or institution. Important Note: Candidates must have passed their Class XII examination (higher secondary (10+2)) or equivalent at the time of document scrutiny/in-person counseling tentatively scheduled in May/June 2022. Candidates who have not passed their final board exam or equivalent before the document scrutiny/in-person counseling will not be eligible for admission. Eligibility Criteria for M.Des. Courses All candidates applying for the M.Des. program must meet the eligibility criteria of both age and educational qualification as under.

Age Limit: For Indian nationals belonging to the General or General EWS category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 1992 are eligible to apply for admission. For Indian nationals belonging to OBC/SC/ST category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 1989 are eligible to apply for admission. For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 1987 are eligible to apply for admission. For Foreign Nationals in Overseas Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 1992 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification: In addition to meeting the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admission: Bachelor's Degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization. Full-time diploma of minimum 4 year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/Architecture. Bachelor's Degree of minimum 3 year duration in any specialization.
