NIFT Syllabus

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), which conducts the national-level diagram entrance exam, will launch the syllabus for NIFT at its official admission portal - niftadmissions.in.

The NIFT entrance exam will be a two-tier process:

  • Step 1 - Written assessments - GAT and CAT (only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take CAT)
  • Step 2 - Situation Test (B.Des) / GDPI (All PG programs)

NIFT Syllabus of the General Ability Test

Quantitative Ability

This sub-test is designed to check the quantitative potential of the candidates. The subtest consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.

Communication Ability and English Comprehension

This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in daily verbal exchange in English. It consists of questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one-word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, understanding a scenario from a given passage, etc.

Analytical Ability and Logical Ability

This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s ability for inference and good judgment from the given records and to consider the candidate’s ability to discover the given problem and practice reasoning in solving the core issues of the problem. Concepts and practices of creative and lateral questioning are likely to be useful.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s universal understanding and contemporary affairs.

Case Study

This sub-test is based totally on a scenario in an enterprise environment. It helps to consider the candidate’s managerial ability.

NIFT Syllabus for Creative Ability Test (CAT)

Syllabus for NIFT Situation Test


The Situation Test/GDPI is the 2nd stage of the NIFT entrance exam. Candidates will be shortlisted for this spherical on the groundwork of their rankings in the written tests.
 

  • The situation test is a hands-on test that will evaluate the candidate’s skills for material coping with and progressive potential in a given scenario with a given set of materials.
  • The candidate will have to make a model/design using the given material.
  • Using any other material without those provided internally in the exam venue is prohibited.
  • The mannequin will be evaluated on space visualization, progressive and innovative use of given material, the composition of elements, color scheme, construction skill, the finesse of the mannequin and normal presentation, etc. These parameters will be checked with the write-up explaining the concept at the back of the mannequin constructed.
  • The write-up has to be in English. No marks will be given for write-ups in any different language.
  • The candidate shouldn’t reveal their identity in any way; attempting to do so may want to lead to disqualification.
  • The situation takes a look at will be evaluated on the SPOT. Also, note that the mannequin will no longer be preserved for future reference.
