
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Srinagar campus was flooded with youthful energy on Wednesday as the two-day SPECTRUM youth festival began.
The youth festival, which was organized in advance of the G20 meeting in Srinagar, brought together students from NIFT Srinagar and ten other participating institutions, giving them the chance to showcase their abilities and creativity in a variety of cultural, literary, and sporting events.
The festival, which was organized to provide a platform for emerging talent, got off to a tremendous start. Cheers, clapping, and the involvement of students eager to demonstrate their expertise in a variety of fields filled the exciting environment.
The festival's cultural section featured hypnotic dance performances, thrilling music interpretations, and captivating theatrical shows.
The sports aficionados were not disappointed, since the festival offered a variety of sporting activities such as chess, basketball, volleyball, and others.
Prof. A Ravinder Nath, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), was the Chief Guest, while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam Akshay Labroo was the Guest of Honour during the two-day youth festival's inauguration ceremony.
Dr. Javid Wani, Director of NIFT, stated in his welcoming address that the two-day youth festival, which precedes the G20 tourism meeting, would sensitize our young to comprehend and enjoy cultural tourist goods. "Our cuisine, festivals, music, arts, and crafts can add variety to Kashmir's tourism package," he remarked.
In his address to the audience, Vice Chancellor CUK thanked the NIFT for organizing such an engaging event and providing students from many institutes with the chance to showcase their innate skills via sports culture and literary activities.
"Until now, Paris has been the only city that has gone for fashion all over the world," he added, adding that the development of this college of fashion technology "should bring a name for Srinagar city in terms of fashion and technology."
Speaking at the event, DC Budgam urged the students to make the most of their current situation, emphasizing the importance of developing one's individuality and profession.
He stated that the NIFT Srinagar school is becoming a melting pot of cultures and communities, noting that the school includes students and faculty from more than 20 states throughout the country.
"We are like a Mini India, and this is what NIFT brings to Kashmir, a crucible of cultural exchanges besides so much to learn and share with each other," he highlighted.
“Make the best of this institute and become great assets of J&K and your respective states as well. Make our country proud in the arena of fashion and technology,” he shared with the students.
In her address, Director Colleges J&K Prof. Yasmeen Ashai congratulated NIFT for organising such an event. “Apart from academics, extra-curricular activities are essential to create and shape the personality of a human being,” she emphasised.
Chairman Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar, Vijay Dhar while speaking at the occasion contextualised the glorious past of Kashmir in arts and crafts. “Parachute silk was one time famous from Kashmir. This high-quality silk was in high demand. We need to do a lot more in reviving our rich arts and crafts,” he mentioned.
SDAC NIFT Srinagar Shashi Ranjan presented a vote of thanks on the occasion.
