30 years of Pearl Academy: Developing Professionally All-Rounder Designers Who Make an Impact

The goal of Pearl School is to develop creatives into complete design professionals. Being current with pertinent technology, mastering life skills, and having exposure to other cultures are the three essential prerequisites that Pearl Academy has identified as supporting students' growth into full-fledged design workers.

There are designs everywhere. All aspects of our lives are impacted by both the act of producing and the results. Creating something that would have an effect on emotions, visuals, and experiences is what a designer aspires to do. While some people have a methodical strategy, for others, the approach is lunacy.

Pearl Academy is dedicated to transforming creative people into full design experts, regardless of the strategy they may choose. Based on extensive interviews with academics, practitioners, and subject-matter specialists, industry research, and discussions with practitioners, Pearl Academy has found the three key prerequisites that support students' development into full-fledged design professionals. These three include learning life skills, exposure to different cultures, and staying current with pertinent technology.

Let's examine how these have been incorporated into Pearl Academy's teaching and learning process.

International Exposure

Global experience is a crucial component that can really help young workers stand out in today's increasingly cohesive world. Pearl Academy, a leader in creative education, has long handled program creation with an eye on the requirements of the entire industry. Numerous students have received once-in-a-lifetime chances for development due to their unmatched access to international companies, industry mentors, and events.

Manavika Mirania, a recent graduate in fashion design from Pearl Academy's Jaipur Campus, recently secured an internship with Spanish fashion company Balenciaga in Paris, providing her with the rare chance to broaden her portfolio and pick the brains of established professionals.

Students gravitate to Pearl Academy for the type of exposure offered, prior to their professional journeys, including attending international fashion weeks and paving the way to win global competitions to the institute's many impactful industry relationships with the likes of FDCI, and Lakme Fashion Week.

Talking about the global exposure provided at Pearl Academy, Aditi Srivastava, the President of the institute further highlights, “Our credits are recognised at UK, Canadian, and Australian universities. So, if a student pursues a fashion design course, interior design course or any other course at Pearl Academy , a two-year, 240-credit course, he/she can immediately jump into a third year at Nottingham, Torrens or Manchester Metropolitan University. And then, the student can pass out with a degree. Secondly, we give them exposure through the international lab. We encourage students to go for fashion weeks. 43 Pearl Academy students will be going to London Fashion Week. They also get masterclass opportunities from global subject matter experts.”

Technology

The institute's philosophy toward the rapidly changing technological environment, which presents some incredible opportunities to stretch creative limits, is another crucial factor in selecting the best institution. “When a student joins us to be a fashion designer or interior designer, or in textile or communication, we give them technical competency and essentially devote 85% of the curriculum and teaching pedagogy to the same.

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality

Augmented reality and virtual reality are increasingly becoming popular in the design industry because they provide new ways for designers to visualise and interact with their designs in three dimensions. If I'm able to visualise before I build it, I will not only save money but also get what I require. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly important in the design arena because they allow designers to automate routine tasks. Another trend is digital fabrication which uses digital technologies like 3D printing and laser cutting to create physical products”, Aditi adds on

As the world gradually shifts to a new way of operating, Pearl Academy also has plans to soon offer a special "Meta 101" course to acquaint students with the metaverse and give them fundamental skills and capabilities.

Life skills

Practical knowledge is important, but building a quick route to success also requires emotional intelligence, money savvy, and communication skills. Giving students these types of abilities enables them to establish themselves more strongly in the job market and eases the process of moving up the professional ladder.  Aditi shares, “We have developed ‘Learning for Life’ program, which we piloted and introduced two years ago at Pearl Academy. We came up with this with the vision to nurture a complete design professional. If a student has a pathbreaking idea but unable to convince the client or anybody about it, then it's just an idea.

Good Communication Capabilities, Emotional Intelligence, and Financial Expertise to Win Over the Design Domain

To overcome this, a student needs strong communication skills, emotional intelligence and financial acumen. A student should be able to talk about a project they want to do and think about how they build the financials into it, what is the end product going to cost us, and what the market cost is going to be like. So, these are the things that life skills will teach. Every student at Pearl Academy will do credit-based learning on these life skills. We've allotted 12 credits to them”. Pearl Academy's carefully designed pedagogy has demonstrated to deliver a high placement track record, with students landing positions at leading brands like IBM, Gucci, Shantanu & Nikhil, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Accenture, among others. The school's placement rate is an impressively consistent 99% year over year.

If you find yourself asking the same question that was initially posed, remember that choosing a knowledge provider who bases its strategy on everything from pedagogy and infrastructure to the overall development of life skills is the only way to guarantee that your educational investment pays off in the long run. As they say, "art is all in the details," and at Pearl School, the details go far beyond rote memorization.
