IIT Jodhpur Launches Masters in Design Program

The Masters in Design (MDes) program XR Design accepts applicants from a variety of professions, including graphic design, architecture, and engineering.

From the academic year 2023–2024, the Masters in Design (MDes) program XR Design will begin at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur. Students with a range of backgrounds—including graphic design, architecture, and engineering—can enroll in the course. According to the institution, students will work with industry-standard hardware and software, including Unity, Unreal Engine, Maya, and several headsets, to build immersive experiences.

Immersive experiences that incorporate elements of Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality

According to the institute, the program focuses on teaching students how to create immersive experiences that incorporate elements of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. These experiences can be used for a variety of purposes, including training in the healthcare and retail industries, automotive simulations, digital twins in manufacturing, remote collaboration in the workplace, as well as gaming and entertainment.

Applications for the XR Design program are now being accepted at sola.iitj.ac.in. May 21 is the last day to register. On July 2,202, the first semester will start. The online application link will be accessible for self-sponsored seats until May 14.

“This is in accordance with the Government of India’s mandate to create manpower in the areas related to AR/VR technologies. This innovative programme is designed to prepare students for the rapidly evolving field of extended reality (XR) design. XR Design is a unique programme that blends traditional design principles with cutting-edge technology to prepare graduates for the future of design," the institute highlighted.
