Students from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) dazzled the crowd with their notions of the theme metanoia at a recent fashion performance as part of the college's annual fest, Spectrum.
Models walked the runway wearing numerous layers of fabrics, props, and accessories before shedding them on stage, representing the various phases of transformation. Young designers from NIFT's various divisions put their most inventive artistic foot forward, from weaving a space odyssey to bringing everyone on a hedonistic trip. The drawings, which took nearly two months to complete, were created by teams of two to six pupils.
While some designs were a fusion of traditional and modern styles, others were a visual depiction of the wearer's interior voyage. “Since the theme was metanoia, we went with two layers in our design – with the first layer depicting the virtual world, consumed by users and their pixelated identities, and then shedding that layer and transitioning into a fantasy world, an escape from reality,” according to Harshit Kaushik, a student designer from the fashion design department. “We aimed to depict humanity as slaves of technology,” he adds on.
