The Kingston School of Art in London and the Indian Institute of Art and Design in Delhi have joined hands to introduce JAMBOREE, a unique design conversation platform.
JAMBOREE is a creative confluence of design perspectives and ideas, offering a shared space for curious and creative minds. It has been designed to open up dialogue among a diverse group of design learners and create a bridge across cultures and borders. In the academic year 2022–2023, JAMBOREE featured eminent speakers from the IIAD and KSA in a series of six online talks.
A talk, a panel discussion, and an open forum
The JAMBOREE event began with a talk titled "Great Fashion Design that has the imperative of sustainability and the environment at its core" by Dr. Sass Brown, KSA Course Leader, Sustainable Fashion - Business and Practices.
A panel discussion and an open forum were held after the presentation. Members of the panel included Eleana Ward, a student at Fashion Design, KSA, Caroline Alexander, a teaching staff member at Fashion Design, IIAD, and Shipra Kukreja, a student at Fashion Design, IIAD. The panelists assembled a diverse group of faculty and students who have worked on or are interested in working on a more sustainable future in fashion.
Damian Chapman, Head of the Design School at Kingston School of Art, and Usha Patel, Director - Academics at the Indian Institute of Art and Design, were instrumental in conceptualizing and realizing JAMBOREE.
Mr. Chapman expressed his excitement for the launch and noted that IIAD and KSA share the same design ethos. He encouraged everyone to advocate for provocative ideas that will inspire new thinking, making, and projects through JAMBOREE, a bridge between the two institutions. He also emphasized that everyone should make sure that they participate in this new procedure.
When discussing this exceptional platform, Usha Patel stated that JAMBOREE is not just about sharing knowledge but also about creating knowledge together. She described JAMBOREE as a multifaceted event that promotes diversity in the sociocultural context and also that it addresses the challenges and opportunities in the design industry.
