The President's Standard and Colour and the Indian Navy Crest have a New Look

New designs for the President's Standard and Color and Indian Navy Crest have been introduced with the approval of Indian President Droupadi Murmu

New Delhi: With the approval of Indian President Droupadi Murmu, new designs for the President's Standard and Color as well as the Indian Navy Crest have been introduced. They were unveiled on Navy Day in Visakhapatnam.

Moving Away from the Colonial Past

The Naval Ensign was changed to a new design that draws inspiration from our history, with the red horizontal and vertical lines on the white ensign being replaced by a blue octagon with twin golden borders encompassing the national emblem atop a clear anchor and "National Emblem " Satyamev Jayate " inscribed on the stock of the anchor. Moreover, the National Flag was retained on the upper left canton.

The former design of the President’s Standard and Colour for the Indian Navy was instituted on 06 Sep 2017.

The design included horizontal and vertical red bands intersecting in the center, as well as the National Emblem inserted at their intersection.

Power, Courage, Confidence and Pride

The Golden State Emblem represents 'Power, Courage, Confidence, and Pride,' whereas the Navy Blue - Golden Octagon shape is inspired by Shivaji Maharaj Rajmudra, or the Seal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and represents the eight directions (four cardinal and four intercardinal), symbolizing the Indian Navy's maritime outreach.

The new design of the President's Standard and Color honors India's glorious maritime heritage while also representing a strong, courageous, confident, and proud Indian Navy.

A replacement

The foul anchor has been swapped out for a clear anchor in the Indian Navy Crest. The clear anchor represents the Indian Navy's steadfastness in deterring any challenge in the maritime domain, as well as clarity in vision, mission, and aspirations of its sailors.

Indian Navy's Commitment to Protecting its Coast and Maritime Interests

The Clear Anchor also represents the Indian Navy's dedication to defending India's coast and maritime interests. The modification would entail the removal of the Crest Designs' figurative nautical rope.

In honor of Navy Day in 2022, the Modified Indian Navy Crest was unveiled with effect on December 4th.

In Recognition of the Navy's Outstanding and Meritorious Service to the Country.

The President's Standard and President's Colour are awarded to static and mobile formations of the Indian Navy, respectively, to recognize their distinguished and meritorious service to the nation.

On May 27, 1951, the then-President Dr. Rajendra Prasad gave the President's Colour to the Indian Navy, the first of the three Services to receive it.

The President's Colour has been bestowed upon the Western, Southern, and Eastern Naval Commands, the Western and Eastern Fleets, the Submarine Arm, the Naval Air Arm, INS Shivaji, INS Valsura, and the Indian Naval Academy in the Indian Navy. The President's Standard was first presented to the 22nd Missile Vessel Squadron.
