Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted, “The primary objective of this initiative is to attract investments from across the world and help build a vibrant semiconductor design and manufacturing ecosystem. PM Modi ji has announced Rs 76,000 crores as outlay for semiconductor sector to fulfil the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat. Already there are 27-28 semicon startups and the number will soon go up to 100, with the Government’s policy support.”

Safeguards for the semiconductor industry

The Government has put in place a number of safeguards for the semiconductor industry, he claimed. These include creating an Indian Semiconductor Research Centre (ISRC) that will collaborate with elite universities like the IITs to develop cutting edge semiconductor research, modernising Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), and implementing the VLSI/ semiconductor curriculum to produce an 85,000-person talent pool capable of developing creative designs and solutions.

Now that Deep Tech, AI, Space, and Semiconductors are included in the digital economy, it has grown beyond its original focus on IT/ITES. India is being transformed from a consumer of technology to a producer of technology by the government, who are working along with business, entrepreneurs, and academics to make this happen.

A Golden Opportunity for Indian Entrepreneurs

Global leaders in the semiconductor industry, including Dr Vivek Lall, Chief Executive of General Atomics, and Mr Hidetoshi Shibata, President and CEO of Renesas Technology, presented their visions and indicated interest in working with Indian entrepreneurs during the roadshow.

Mr Shibata, the Japanese chip maker

“India is a critical part of Renesas’ business. There are plenty of opportunities for collaboration. If you have an opportunity, why not think of Renesas? Let’s design the Future together with Renesas,” mentioned Mr Shibata, the Japanese chip maker.

At the launch event, IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee was joined by numerous business executives, founders of startups, and academicians. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has scheduled a number of roadshows across the nation, including the third Semicon India future design roadshow.

The following future design Start-ups (namely, Morphing Machines and Netrasemi) were announced during the third roadshow. It is believed that the next unicorn will come from the fabless chip design area. Morphing Machines is focusing on a dynamic runtime reconfigurable RISC-V many cores accelerator, with near ASIC performance across diverse domains & heterogeneous applications, all on the same homogeneous fabric.

With cutting-edge AI/ML and hardware acceleration capabilities, Netrasemi offers edge AI chipsets, platforms for smart vision, and domain-specific SoC solutions.
