How to do Fashion Design from NID Prelims?

Hi Lavanya! NID prelims and mains, I mean NID examination is the one and only way to study fashion designing and other designing related courses from NID. 

WHAT IS NID? 

NID stands for National Institute of design, is nationally as well as internationally one of the finest educational and research institution which provide Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated Design courses both for under-graduates and post-graduates and doctoral levels.

National Institute for design is the first design Institute in India established by Indian government, Ford Foundation and the Sarabhai family  in the year 1961 at Ahmedabad. It was an autonomous all-India body. NID has been ranked as India’s No. 1 Design Institute. National Institute of Design has it’s total 7 campus all over India, such as, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Gandhinagar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam.

NID examination

NID conduct an entrance examination called NID DAT which is a design aptitude test every year to take admission in B. Des and M. Des courses at NID. NID DAT is divided in to two different parts: NID prelims and NID Mains. NID Prelims which is the written part whereas NID mains is the part where candidates have to go for studio test and personal interview.
To sit for NID, First of all you have to register for NID DAT and crack it with eligible score. If you qualify in prelims, then only you can sit for mains.

Prelims pattern

NID Prelims are divided into 2 sections: Common Design Aptitude Test and Discipline Specific Test. These two will happen together. Paper will consist Mix of objective and subjective types of questions of 100 marks in English language. 
Number of Objective questions will be 22 of 1 and 2 marks and subjective questions will be 4 of 15 and 12 marks.

Eligibility for NID

Age limit for NID

FOR UG STUDENTS-

  • General and general EWS candidates must be up to 20 years of age on or before June 30, 2003
  • OBC-Non Creamy Layer/ ST/ SC candidates get a relaxation of 3 years.
  • PwD reserved category candidates get an exemption of 5 years. 

FOR PG STUDENTS-

  • Indian nationals in general category as well as Internationals – candidates must born on or after July 1, 1993, to be eligible for application. 
  • Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC & ST) – candidates must born on or after July 1, 1990, to get eligible for NID. 
  • Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category - candidates must born on or after July 1, 1988, to get eligible for NID.

Qualification level for NID

For UD STUDENTS-

  • Candidates must pass their 10+2 examination with any stream from any recognised board state or national level. 

For PG students-

  • Candidates must graduate with any courses from any recognised university.
