Hi Tejpreet! To do fashion designing from NIFT you need to match with their eligibility criteria first. If you got matched then apply for NIFT exam and crack it with a good marks which will help you to get the position of higher rank. 

WHAT IS NIFT? 

NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. NIFT is a expert Institution in fashion education which provide integrate knowledge, traditional arts, contemporary thought, academic freedom, innovations in design and technology and creative thinking. NIFT, today, has spread its wings across the length and breadth of the country with its 17 campuses all over India.

How to do fashion designing from NIFT:

1. Eligibility criteria for fashion designing

First of all match your eligibility criteria. Here is the eligibility criteria for NIFT candidates-

  • For B.Des. admissions, candidates must have pass 10+2 exam from any recognised board of secondary exam with any stream. But for B.FTech. candidates must have Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics in their 10+2 examination. 
  • For M. Des candidates have to Pass 10+2 examination from any university, school or board, Institute from India or any foreign country but must recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). 
  • There are age limit to apply for NIFT exam. The age limit is 23 years. There is age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST.

2. NIFT entrance 

After being eligible, they need to qualify for NIFT entrance exam in order to study at NIFT. NIFT conducts entrance examination for the candidates who are seeking for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses. There are two entrance examination organise by NIFT which are- General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT).
Candidates who wants to study fashion designing, have to sit for GAT, CAT both. 

  • There are also situation test for B. Des candidates after qualifying GAT and CAT.
  • GDPI for M. des candidates after qualifying GAT and CAT.

Not only qualifying exam will help to get admission at NIFT, but Candidates need to score above 

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT): 40%
  • General Ability Test (GAT): 30%
  • Group Discussion and Personal Interview: 30%
