Design Entrance Exams in India

Few design topics, such as visual expressions, realistic designing, style designing, material designing, game designing, and so forth, are the only ones that many design schools offer alumni courses in. As a result, design has become a popular profession.

The design and creative sector in India is a thriving, diverse, and dynamic one that is expanding at an incredible rate. The fact that you get paid for your creativity is the most obvious benefit of being a designer.

In order to enrol in a design course in India, you should be aware of the prerequisites and placement requirements for different projects.

Subject to certain age restrictions and regardless of the stream (science, humanities, or commerce), all candidates taking the +2 level examinations under the 10+2 pattern of examination from any recognised central or state board of secondary examination are eligible.

No rigid percentage requirements exist. It goes without saying that passing a few exams is a requirement for admission to these universities.

Here are five design entrance exams you should look into in India:

1. National Institute of Design, (NID)

Graduate-level Bachelor of Design courses are offered by the National Institute of Design (NID). Only NID offers the four-year Bachelor of Design programme.

It offers specialisations in the Faculty of Ceramic and Glass Design, Faculty of Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle and Accessory Design, Faculty of Communication Design, and Faculty of Industrial Design.

Test:

NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains are two different versions of the selection test. To advance to the Mains, you must pass the prelims, which are a composed test. This section of the exam covers plan hypothesis, creative thinking and writing, demonstration of strategies, creative mind and doodling, and other topics.

The Mains consists of tests that require analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and observation, as well as a studio test that could be followed by an interview round.

Qualification: Subject to the age limit, each course requires a minimum scholastic requirement of 10+2 (cleared or showing up) in any stream.

2. NIFT ENTRANCE EXAM

The National Institute of Fashion Technology administers this test (NIFT). It is administered once a year in 32 cities across the nation and is one of the most well-known tests for planning.

Test:

Candidates who wish to pursue a BDes degree must pass two stages: Stage 1 (the CAT and GAT, or Creative Ability Test) and Stage 2 (the Situation Test).

Initial application deadlines for 2023 are set for the first week of November.

Qualification:

To participate in this test, competitors must have completed at least 10+2 (cleared or showing up) in any stream (Science, Commerce, and Arts).

3. UCEED

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design is used to determine admission to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur (UCEED).

Students who passed Class 12 (or its equivalent) in 2022 or who will be taking the exam in 2023 in any stream (science, commerce, or arts and humanities) are eligible to take the UCEED in that year.

Test:

The exam will be divided into two sections: On a computer-based test known as Part-A, you will be evaluated on your capacity for spatial and visual perception, observational skills, design sensitivity, environmental and social awareness, logical and analytical reasoning, language and creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Your ability to draw objects, people, or scenes with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading will be evaluated in Part-B, a pen and paper test.

4. DESIGN APTITUDE TEST from the United World Institute of Design

One of India's first design institutions is United World Institute of Design. It administers exams each year so that students can demonstrate their creativity and pursue careers in design by applying to UG and PG programmes.

Test:

Your general awareness, ability to think, and perception are put to the test in this plan placement. This is followed by a portfolio round, where you must demonstrate your ability to manipulate materials, a studio test at one of the UID campuses, where you must present your portfolio, and an interview.

Applications open in October each year, and the test is held annually in January.

For this test, up-and-comers must have completed at least 10+2 in any stream (cleared or showing up).

5. PAF ENTRANCE EXAM at the PEARL ACADEMY OF FASHION

It is a top design, fashion, business, and media institution in India. Over 40 specially created courses are available across campuses.

With a focus on internationalism, entrepreneurship, and employability as well as meeting the needs of the design, fashion, business, and retail industries, the academy has developed into a highly regarded institution of higher learning with an international reputation.

This placement test for planning after the twelfth grade requires you to pass the general proficiency test (GPT), the test to determine your plan inclination (DAT), an interview, and a portfolio review.
