CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is an entrance exam for postgraduate programs in design. It is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The exam is designed to test the aptitude of candidates for design and is conducted in two parts – Part A and Part B.

Part A of the exam is a computer-based test that tests the candidate's aptitude for design through multiple-choice questions. The questions are based on the following topics:

  1. Visualization and Spatial Ability: This section tests the candidate's ability to understand and manipulate three-dimensional objects and space.

  2. Environmental and Social Awareness: This section tests the candidate's awareness of environmental factors and their impact on design, as well as their understanding of social and cultural issues related to design.

  3. Analytical and Logical Reasoning: This section tests the candidate's ability to analyze and interpret data and solve problems using logical reasoning.

  4. Language and Creativity: This section tests the candidate's language skills and ability to think creatively.

Part B of the exam is a design aptitude test that tests the candidate's ability to apply design principles to a given problem. The test consists of two parts – The drawing and Creativity Test (DCT) and the Design Aptitude Test (DAT).

The Drawing and Creativity Test (DCT) is a hands-on test that tests the candidate's ability to draw and sketch. The test consists of two parts – the first part involves drawing from observation, and the second part involves creating a visual narrative based on a given theme.

The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is a test that tests the candidate's ability to apply design principles to a given problem. The test consists of three parts – the first part involves designing a product based on a given theme, the second part involves designing a communication interface, and the third part involves designing a spatial environment.

CAT and GAT are two components of Part A of the CEED exam.

CAT (Creative Ability Test) is a sub-test of Part A that tests the candidate's ability to think creatively and come up with original ideas. The test consists of three questions, each of which is designed to test a different aspect of the candidate's creativity. The questions are open-ended and require the candidate to come up with their solutions.

GAT (General Ability Test) is a sub-test of Part A that tests the candidate's general knowledge and aptitude. The test consists of multiple-choice questions based on the following topics:

  1. Design and Culture: This section tests the candidate's knowledge of design history, theory, and culture.

  2. Design Methodology: This section tests the candidate's knowledge of design methodology, research, and analysis.

  3. Perception and Visualization: This section tests the candidate's ability to perceive and visualize three-dimensional objects and space.

  4. Environmental and Social Awareness: This section tests the candidate's knowledge of environmental and social issues related to design.

  5. Mental Ability: This section tests the candidate's reasoning and problem-solving abilities.

In conclusion, the CEED exam is designed to test the candidate's aptitude for design and consists of two parts – Part A and Part B. Part A consists of two sub-tests – CAT and GAT – that test the candidate's creativity and general knowledge and aptitude, respectively. Part B is a design aptitude test that tests the candidate's ability to apply design principles to a given problem.
