Universal Designing 

Universal Design refers to the concept of designing products, environments, and systems that are accessible and usable by people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. It is an inclusive approach to design that aims to eliminate barriers and create equitable access for everyone, regardless of their physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities. Universal Design principles can be applied to various domains such as architecture, product design, communication, and technology, among others, to ensure that everyone can use and enjoy them without difficulty or exclusion.

Universal Design has many benefits, including enhancing the usability and user experience of products and environments, improving safety and efficiency, reducing stigmatisation and discrimination, and promoting social inclusion and diversity. It can also lead to cost savings and increased market opportunities, as it can appeal to a wider range of users and accommodate changing needs over time.

Principles of Universal Design

Equitable Use: The design should be useful and accessible to people with diverse abilities.

Flexibility in Use: The design should accommodate a wide range of individual preferences and abilities.

Simple and Intuitive Use: The design should be easy to understand, regardless of the user's experience, knowledge, or language skills.

Perceptible Information: The design should communicate necessary information effectively to users, regardless of their sensory abilities.

Tolerance for Error: The design should minimise hazards and adverse consequences, even when users make mistakes or encounter unexpected situations.

Low Physical Effort: The design should require minimal physical effort to use, regardless of the user's ability.

Size and Space for Approach and Use: The design should provide enough space for a variety of users to approach and use the design comfortably.

A Community of Users: The design should be inclusive and foster a sense of community among users, regardless of their diversity.
